Postings: LSA Asian Languages & Cultures
School/College
Literature, Science & the Arts
Department Name
LSA Asian Languages & Cultures
Application Procedure
Our goal is to provide high-quality instruction in our courses. We do not hire under qualified teaching assistants in order to give them experience or provide them with financial aid. Among applicants with comparable qualifications, priority goes to students for whom we bear the primary burden of providing professional training and financial assistance -- that is, graduate students in Asian Languages and Cultures, and then graduate students in other related programs such as Linguistics or Comparative Literature who frequently take courses in ALC.
Open positions for teaching assistants for ALC courses in the Asian Studies division are announced in the same manner as positions in the language program. Language proficiency is not a necessary qualification for these assistantships. Instead, the qualifications are a serious career interest and previous background in Asian language, culture or in the study of religion. Hiring priorities after ALC students include students in History of Art, History, and Anthropology, as well as students in related fields of language and literature.
All offers of employment are made in writing and are signed by the Department Chair. No discussions or conversations regarding employment should be misinterpreted as offers of employment. The duration of a GSI appointment is for one term only.
