HISTORY OF EVENTS
The Business and Finance Diversity Committee stems from a charge given by former University of Michigan CFO, Dr. Farris Womack.

Annual MLK Day Convocations - The most highly visible project the committee is responsible for is the MLK Day Convocation. The last two years the performances were theater style and featured a variety of acts representing various backgrounds.

Diversity Forum - These forums were held in the spring of '94, '95 and '96 at the Michigan Union. The target audiences were members of the various diversity committees within the Business and Finance area.

Resource Manual - The Diversity Manual was the project of the first two Business and Finance Diversity Committees (BFDC). The first part of the manual contains a copy of the Michigan Mandate, committee progress reports, a listing of committee members and departmental resources that can be borrowed. The second part of the manual contains a complete listing of all the materials in the University Film and Video Library relating to diversity and multiculturalism.

Diversity Update Newsletter - The committee publishes a quarterly newsletter focused on diversity topics. The next publication is scheduled for early / mid August.

Orientation Sessions - The committee offered diversity orientation sessions for all B&F employees hired after July 1991. The sessions ran from July 1994 until April of 1996.

Autumn conference, featuring Dr. Edwin Nichols - Dr. Edwin Nichols was invited to be a guest speaker and conducted his "Cultural Awareness" Seminar on November 16 & 17 1994. On November 16, he directed an abbreviated 2-hour seminar for members of the Business and Finance Seminar Group. That evening, he opened the seminar to include the entire University community. On November 17, he conducted a full day seminar for all interested staff in Business and Finance. Dr. Nichols is an internationally known diversity speaker, whose expertise lies in making diversity work with total quality management.

Business and Finance Diversity Choir - The BFDC Choir began in 1992. Originally only slated to perform for MLK Day, the choir's popularity has soared since 1992. Since then they have performed at a number of venues across the University including, Gifts of Art Program, Employee Appreciation program, Kellogg Eye Center, Multicultural Food Fest and President Duderstadt's farewell and Dr. Bollinger's investiture.
