Action Plan / Experience
Do you need to build experience before you
are ready for your ultimate goal? A lateral move to increase the
breadth of your experience or a promotion to increase your level
of responsibility could be a good long-term career move. Even a
demotion may be worth it if you are interested in entering a new
field. Here are some ideas for getting started:
UM Jobs lists
current opportunities at the University of Michigan
Internships give
you experience in your desired field. These may be paid or unpaid,
but be sure you can get recommendations from it.
Volunteering A
relatively safe haven to develop and try new skills where your paycheck
is not at risk. Don't treat it casually; you will want to be able
to have a strong reference. You may even meet someone who could
lead to your next job.
