Delta Dental selected for 2009
Delta Dental will administer the U-M Dental Plan, effective Jan. 1, 2009. During the remainder of the current calendar year, dental benefits will continue to be administered by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (MetLife) without change.
All U-M benefits plans are periodically re-assessed to ensure the best match of services for our investment, and the selection of Delta Dental is the result of such an assessment, including a competitive bidding process. This decision has very recently been reached so more details about the plan and specific levels of coverage will be available later this summer once all aspects of the plan design are confirmed.
Plan features:
- The plan will continue to offer a base dental benefit that will require no employee premium contribution
- The base plan’s expanded coverage will provide more frequent dental cleanings for members with certain dental or medical conditions
- The plan will include an option for broader coverage with an employee co-premium contribution
More details will be provided by email and posted on the Benefits Office Web site this summer, and will also be included in this year’s Open Enrollment materials in the fall. Until 2009, the current U-M dental plan through MetLife remains in force and unchanged.

SUCCESSFUL LAUNCH
HR Metrics New Pro-Clarity Tool
Two user training classes have been conducted and the overwhelming consensus is: the new HR Metrics Tool is a very valuable and easy-to-use tool for analyzing trends, benchmarking to other U of M units, and answering difficult HR questions.
The next training session is June 18th.
Register here:User Support Labs (HRL310)
Advantages of the new HR Metrics tool:
- Within the HR dataset there are many effective-dated tables that can be confusing to use or join. The tool links tables for you correctly and provides “pre-calculate measures” you choose to analyze.
- You can easily export to Excel or Word
- Enhancements over the previous HR Metrics too by CLC :
- Ability to see detail data on people, e.g. EOP Headcount, terminations, retirement planning, job codes, career families
- Much greater flexibility in using filters/analyses options, e.g. succession/retirement planning, by:
- Career family, gender, ethnicity, Exec/Mgr positions
- Termination & termination reason analysis
- Job Code level detail
- Percent of active employees
- Easier ability to create your own reports and views of the data by including/excluding only the data you want, e.g. within a job family or career family you want to see certain job codes not all of them in that family
- Refreshed Monthly
- Easier and greater ability to answer your own questions:
- Who is eligible to retire in the next few years?
- Are they managers/executives?
- Which Career Families will be most impacted?
- What is the impact on my ethnic distribution?
- Will be including more Financial data e.g. info on short codes, etc
In order for the lab to be most beneficial to you, we ask that you:
Review the HR Metrics Software Demonstrations available on My LINC prior to the lab:
HRW220 HR Metrics Software Demonstration – Getting Started
HRW221 HR Metrics Software Demonstration – Data Layout Tab
HRW222 HR Metrics Software Demonstration – Drill to Detail
NOTE: These demonstrations are best viewed in 1280x1024 resolution.
The next training session is June 18th.
