Human Resources Changes Its Name:
UHR is now UHR
The name Human Resources & Affirmative Action officially changed to University Human Resources (UHR) on July 1. Throughout the coming months, you will begin to see the new name and logo appear on UHR websites, marketing materials and other communications, such as this issue of “UHR News,” formerly “UHR News.”
This new name more accurately represents the full spectrum of UHR service areas and its broad role of policy and practice development for all campuses and the Health System. While affirmative action remains a significant part of the work that UHR does, this new name offers a more balanced depiction of UHR’s overall purpose and mission .
This transition does not change any of the services provided by UHR, nor does it change U-M’s commitment to diversity. The Office of Institutional Equity will continue to manage affirmative action as well as a variety of anti-discrimination programs to promote and further U-M’s commitment to diversity and equal opportunity for all members of our community. Additionally, as a government contractor, U-M is required by federal law to conduct affirmative action in terms of employment, and that work will continue.
Thank you for your ongoing support and contribution to human resources at the University of Michigan. If you have any questions regarding the change to University Human Resources, please feel free to contact HR Communications at <HRC@bf.umich.edu>.

U-M Premier Care to be offered during 2008 Open Enrollment
U-M Premier Care will be a new choice for medical coverage in 2008 during this year's Open Enrollment period, Oct. 8-19. The new plan was created by the University to replace the M-CARE HMO when all M-CARE plans (HMO, PPO and POS plans) are discontinued at the end of the year. This change does not affect prescription drug coverage, which will continue to be provided through the U-M Prescription Drug Plan. Blue Care Network of Michigan will administer the U-M Premier Care medical plan, which will be offered only at the University. For the full story: http://www.umich.edu/~urecord/0607/Aug13_07/02.shtml

Michigan Healthy Community Partners with Area Fitness Centers to Offer Discounts to Faculty and Staff
There are literally dozens of fitness centers in and around U-M where you can break a sweat. And now, by showing your MCard, joining just got a little easier on your wallet! To help improve the health and well-being of the University’s workforce and promote physical activity, Michigan Healthy Community has partnered with area fitness centers to offer discounts to faculty and staff who present their MCard when joining.
As always, U-M facilities like:
are great places to sign up for a fitness class, walk on a treadmill or lift weights.
They offer top-notch exercise equipment and include amenities like swimming pools, indoor tracks, and basketball and racquetball courts. U-M facilities are conveniently located throughout campus and membership rates for faculty and staff are always extremely affordable.
If you prefer to work out closer to home, MHealthy has asked fitness centers surrounding the three campuses to offer special rates to MCard holders. Participating non-university work out facilities are now offering MCard holders discounts of at least 10 percent off their regular membership rates. For more information, check out a complete list of participating fitness centers and gyms on the MCard discount website http://www.mcard.umich.edu/discountsfaculty.htm.

John Nichols Re-elected to DPS Oversight Committee
John Nichols, Electrician, Construction Services, has been re-elected for a two-year term, which began in July 2007, as the union staff member representative to the University's Department of Public Safety Oversight Committee. Nichols has served on the committee for two years.
The six-member oversight committee is an independent committee comprised of two student members, two faculty members, and two staff members (one union and one non-union), who are nominated and elected by their peers for two-year terms. The committee considers grievances against any public safety officer deputized by the University. Its findings and recommendations are reported to the Office of the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

Children’s Center Infant Program Now Accepting Applications for Fall 2007
The University of Michigan Children’s Center is thrilled to announce its new infant program beginning September 2007. It is with great pride that we announce this new program in response to President Mary Sue Coleman’s commitment to child care services at the University of Michigan, the Child Care Initiative. President Coleman outlined three specific goals: increasing capacity; developing infant and toddler care and significantly improving the facilities in which these services are offered.
The University of Michigan Children’s Center’s infant program is a beginning step to accomplishing President Coleman’s goals. Three teachers will provide exemplary, high quality primary care for 16 infants in this freshly renovated space within the Children’s Center. There will be a class for 8 infants in the morning, Monday through Friday and a class for another 8 infants in the afternoon, Monday through Friday. The space is being created as we write this.
We are ready to begin the enrollment process. Below is the information about the sessions and times.
