Discrimination Based on Marital Status

University students, faculty and staff are protected from discrimination on the basis of their marital status, and will not be excluded from participation in, denied the benefits of, or subjected to discrimination under any University program or activity. Click here for more examples of the types of marital status discrimination prohibited by the University, and click here for the discussion of hostile environment harassment for more information about what constitutes prohibited harassment on the basis of marital status.

Where to go for Help

If you believe you are experiencing discrimination or harassment based on your marital status, you are encouraged to contact the appropriate university official (dean, director, HR Representative, etc.) and/or the Office of Institutional Equity. There are also many resources on campus that provide assistance, support and information to individuals experiencing discrimination or harassment based on marital status. If you are unsure which office to contact, contact the office that seems most appropriate, and that office will either assist you or help you make contact with a University office that can.
