Application Procedure

GSI positions are available for the two REES survey courses: REES 395, Survey of Russia: The Russian Empire, the Soviet Union, and the Successor States (Fall 2008); and REES 396, Survey of Central and Eastern Europe and the Enlarged European Union (Winter 2009).

Applicants must sumbit:

1. CREES Fellowship Data Sheet (http://www.ii.umich.edu/crees/resources/studres
2. two letters of recommendation;
3. transcripts;
4. GRE scores;
5. curriculum vitae; and
6. statement of purpose including relevant course work completed and previous teaching experience.

Please indicate in your statement of purpose if you are applying for a GSI position in REES 395 and/or REES 396.

Additional Information

Priority will be given to applicants who have an academic background in Russia/FSU or Eastern Europe and knowledge of a language of the region, and who intend to pursue an academic career (including teaching) focused on the region. Strong preference will be given to graduate students who have prior experience as a GSI.
